Applied AI for research and teaching

Lecturers worked through examples from their everyday responsibilities: preparing teaching materials, reviewing research, developing assessments, and finding grants and potential academic collaborators. The workshop connected these tasks to practical AI workflows while keeping verification and academic judgement central.

Questions about reliability and judgement

Participants raised questions about inaccurate AI-generated references, the need to check sources, and the risks of overreliance on plausible but incorrect outputs in scientific research and clinical education. A second-day discussion also explored trust in digital tools and the continuing role of human expertise. The discussion kept human expertise central to the programme.

A continuing university partnership

The Health Sciences programme was Beaconsmith’s second AI for Academic Productivity engagement at the University of Nigeria. It followed a separate train-the-trainers workshop with UNN’s Faculty of Social Sciences in Nsukka in August 2026. Together, the engagements show how Beaconsmith adapts applied AI training to different academic settings.

At the close of the Enugu programme, the faculty presented The Beaconsmith Collective with a plaque of appreciation for its contribution to the workshop.
